16/11: Welcome
Category: Membership

Welcome to the website of The Old Volks Club, Bristol. The OVC was formed in 2007 by a group of likeminded people who share the same passion in life, classic Volkswagens.
We started the club for three main reasons and they were the cars, the owners and to give people the opportunity to get out and use their rides. We currently have monthly meets, usually the second Sunday of the month, where we meet up and chat about not only all things VW but just life in general. In addition to these meets we also try to arrange other club events or get togethers such as cruises, BBQs etc in the summer months so we can get out and use our dubs whilst the sun shines. Details of any future meets or events can be found in the events section either on the front page or in the Waiting Room main forum pages.
We also try to get to as many shows as possible and always camp together as a club whenever we can. If you see us at a show pop over for a chat or just to say hi and the chances are you'll be offered some apple refreshment as the ciders never far away !!!
So sit back and enjoy the site, pop a message in the Waiting Room if you fancy it and and hopefully we'll see soon

06/10: Oktoberfest 2008

It's always exciting when a new local show is announced especially when it's by organisers who have successes such as Vanwest and Bristol Volksfest under their belts and this event was no exception. The show was billed as a relaxed family event with the empheses on having fun and generally chilling after a long show season at a five star campsite. The added attraction of a european spec BMX track and other exciting activities meant that club and general camping were booked weeks in advance and, as usual, the OVC were out in good numbers to see what was on offer and generally have a good time. The first campers arrived at the 'Gruffy Grounds' area of the site ...
09/06: Bristol Volksfest 2008
I think that all VW fans love a good old show especially when it's in your home town and this years Bristol Volksfest was no exception. The last couple of years have been a three day affair, in line with a lot of other shows, meaning people can arrive and camp up on the Friday night and enjoy a long weekend even if it is only 20 mins from home. We'd decided that most people would make their own way to the show which meant a steady trickle of OVCers arrived throughout the day until early evening when the club stand was bursting at the seams once again. As is usual within 5mins of parking up most people had a cider in their palms and were enjoying the last of the days sunshine and generally enjoying the evening. This drinking carried on well into the early hours until the last of the drinkers decided to hit the hay and call it a day.
Saturday morning saw bright sunshine and the club display, which tied in with the shows beach theme, was assembled ready for the days visitors.

26/05: Plymouth Volksfest 2008
South Devon was the setting for the latest OVC outing for a new show for 2008 set in the pleasant surroundings of Newnham Park in Plymouth. Running at the same time as Run To The Sun was always going to be difficult for the organisers but, with the appeal of 27 bands over the three days, it was decided to put off our annual Run From The Scum event and see what was on offer further south. As is usual for a bank holiday weekend the weather forecast running up to the show was pretty dire and waterproofs were packed along with the cider in preperation for what was to come. The early birds set off from Bristol in the rain but, as the destination neared, the weather cleared and they were greeted by glorious sunshine and blue skies. Tents and awnings were hurridly erected and before long the cider started to flow from one of the 10 barrels tht had been supplied by the members for the weekend!!

12/05: Vanwest 2008
To say that last years Vanwest was a big disappointment weather wise would be a slight understatement and with this in our minds the BBC weather website must have had record hits running up to the annual pilgrimage to Sparkford!! The early cruisers set off on Friday lunchtime and took a leisurely trip down through the Somerset levels with the sun occasionally popping out from behind the clouds. We arrived and were shown to a wonderfully positioned pitch right in the centre of the show. Vehicles were positioned and accomodation erected and finally the cider started to flow as, almost on cue, the sun came out.
