Next Event: 02/09 3rd-5th September. VW Action
VW Action is the longest running VW Show in the UK and the last three years at 'The Pod' have produced some quite exceptional shows. 2010 will continue the great tradition of VW Action by delivering the absolute best event for the true VW enthusiast. It's a show to which people are happy to bring their young family members, and yet which provides full on entertainment for all of its visitors, whatever their age or interests. Every year Action has a theme, and this year, they're having an early Christmas so pop on your santa hats and crack out the tinsel for Saturday nights entertainment. Alongside this there is the spectacle of the track with the RWYB and various classes battling it out all weekend on the strip along with the usual show format with a hugh show and shine and trader area to keep everyone occupied. It promises to be another great show so if you fancy coming along check out the website by clicking on the Action banner above.
31/03: Welcome
Welcome to the website of The Old Volks Club, Bristol.
The OVC was formed in 2007 by a group of likeminded people who share the same passion in life, classic Volkswagens. The club was started for three main reasons and they were the cars, the owners and to give people the opportunity to get out and use their rides. We currently have monthly meets, usually the second Sunday of the month in Aztec West, where we meet up and chat about not only all things VW but just life in general. Dates for these meets can be found in the Events Section on the right of this page. In addition to these meets we also try to arrange other club events or get togethers such as cruises, BBQs etc in the summer months so we can get out and use our dubs whilst the sun shines. Details of these can also be found in the Events Section or in the Waiting Room or Events page on main forum pages. We also try to get to as many shows as possible and always camp together as a club whenever we can. If you see us at a show pop over for a chat or just to say hi and the chances are you'll be offered some apple refreshment as the ciders never far away !!!
So sit back and enjoy the site, check out the pics in the Gallery or read the show write ups below, pop a message in the Waiting Room if you fancy it and and hopefully we'll see you at a club meet or show real soon.

If you're a reader of Volksworld and scan it from cover to cover then you will have noticed the little section in the 2010 Show advert letting people know the wicked news that the Old Volks Club will once again be showing some great vehicles over the weekend of 27th & 28th March. As we have some dubs that will be making their debut at the show, and to give people a little taster, we thought it'd be nice to show you the progress being made in the run up to the weekend as there is going to be some serious work being done over the winter months to try to get the chosen vehicles ready. The thread will be updated over the winter so keep an eye out for updates and new photos but here's a couple for starters before we really get stuck into the projects.
23.11.09
Firstly there is going to be a massive amount of work for Big to get his '63 ragtop ready for 2010 but i'm sure he'll get his finger out an prove the doubters wrong and premier what promises to be one sick bug. Here it is as it stands at the moment.......
Shell awaiting minimal work before being shipped to the painters for final prep and topcoat.
Finished floorpan awaiting the freshly painted body before fitting up can commence along with a full rewire, engine rebuild, interior........!
The other VW that will hopefully be premiered at the show will my '72 RHD Karmann Ghia which will be finally finished over the winter after a two year resto. Just some minor work to be done like a repainted door after a misdemeanor with a BBQ, the finishing of the interior and a bigger engine popped into the rear but nothing major before she hits the road for 2010.

12.12.09
Work started on the engine for the Ghia which is a 1641 lump which was previously residing in my splitty when it arrived from Cali. It has been in the Ghia already but a suspected dropped piston ring meant it came back out until we could test the compression. Good news, after popping it back into the van and spinning it up it turns out all four cylinders have perfect compression meaning a full stripdown won't be needed and I can now get on with the simple task of painting of the tinware and the final build up before she's ready to be popped back in.

We have also today confirmed a back up beetle in case Bigs bug isn't ready. There's still a bit to do on this one too to get it ready for the show but mainly in the lowering department ;)

More pics of this slammed ride to come once some modifications have been made over the next couple of months :)

05/11: 2009 - Another great year
Well that's pretty much it for the 2009 shows and events with only the the partsfest that is Dubfreeze next weekend and The Winter Warmer weekend in Woolacombe to go before its time to wrap up those dubs before winter really sets in. It's been another great year and the shows have been up to their usual high standards whether it was taking in the gorgeous weather and great vehicles at Bug In or just enjoying the company, albeit in the rain, at Bristol Volksfest. Check out the reports on various shows below or browse some of our favourite pictures from the year in the Gallery section to the right.
2010 looks like it's going to be another cracker of a year with the promise of a new local show alongside the usual favourites with a few cheeky club camping trips thrown in for good measure. Also the great news that the club will be at The Volksworld Show again means we can show off the club in all it's glory with some great looking familiar dubs alongside a couple of winter projects which will be wheeled out for the 2010 season ;) Keep an eye out for the Volksworld resto thread that should be hitting these pages real soon.
Remember to check out the Events section on the main forums as the club meets will still be going strong on the second Sunday of the month over the winter months. If you fancy a chat and a coffee in some warm surroundings feel free to swing by and say hello and hopefully we'll see you there soon.
So have a good winter, a cracking christmas and new year and we'll see you in 2010 if not before.

If you're serious about VW's and love a bit of nostalgia mixed in with some great drag racing then European Bug-In is certainly one show not to miss. For the third year running the OVC decided to hit the road and cover the 800 mile round trip to take in the best of what Europe has to offer and we certainly weren't disappointed. One of the longest parts of the trip for us is the jaunt from Bristol to Dover, without hitting the M25 traffic, so it was another early start for the cruisers but as the sun started to rise we were well on our way to making the ferry.

This part of the journey didn't go without drama and by the time we'd hit the M20 one of the vans was in need of attention. Fortunately there were some knowledgeable travellers amongst the party and the OVC train was back on the road in no time at all.
As we arrived in Dover the sun was high in the sky and the temperature was soaring making for a wonderful crossing and in no time we were hitting the French shores and heading towards our destination.
With regular stops being made to top up the oil on the sick bus and to generally cool down we eventually rolled into the town of Chimay in the early evening and set up camp in a familiar spot. In no time at all food was being cooked and beers downed as everyone looked forward to the first day of the show.
